10-day-old infant dead after co-sleeping with three others in same bed
MILWAUKEE- A 10-day-old infant, Egypt E. Holloway, is dead after the infant was found with a teenager and two other children sleeping in the same queen sized bed.
The medical examiner's report says the infant's parents had left the infant in the care of a grandmother on Monday evening, but the grandmother and her boyfriend went out that night and left the infant in the care of a 13-year-old girl around 10 p.m. Monday.
That teenager is an aunt to the infant and she told authorities that the baby was put in the bed next to her six-year-old sister and her cousin who is 12-years-old.
The grandmother and her boyfriend returned home around 4 a.m. and moved all the children except the infant out of the bed.
The grandmother claims she was not lying on top of the infant and the infant was on her back with her head below the pillows and nothing was covering her face.
The grandmother's boyfriend said he was sitting on that bed while all the children were leaving the bed and he felt something was wrong with the infant and called 9-1-1.
The mother, 22-year-old Catelin Haefs, explained that she mainly lives at the address where the incident occurred, but has at times stayed with the infant at another home because she found the one-level home was easier for her after the infant because there are no stairs.
She stated that 1158 N. 43rd is her main address. She has two children that do not live with her and she stated that they were placed with her father who lives in Eau Claire, WI.
She stated that she had not planned to have the infant stay overnight with the grandmother, but the grandmother wanted to have the infant with her last night.
Neither parent works, and both are supported financially by Rose Alexander.
