Third lawsuit filed over voter ID law
MADISON- A third lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Wisconsin's new law requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls has been filed.
The Milwaukee chapter of the NAACP and Hispanic rights group Voces de la Frontera filed the lawsuit on Friday in Dane County Circuit Court arguing that the law violates the right to vote under the state constitution.
A federal lawsuit has also been filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and the League of Women Voters filed a lawsuit in Dane County.
Gov. Scott Walker and backers of the law that passed the Republican-controlled Legislature this year have said it is constitutional and will survive court challenges. The photo ID requirement takes effect with the February election.
