SHEBOYGAN- It took mere minutes for the Sheboygan ciy clerk to submit her report, and the council to accept it, making it official. Mayor Bob Ryan is headed for a recall.
In what was ultimately a formality, the common council accepted the city clerk's report, and more than 4,000 signatures from people who want Mayor Ryan out. TODAY'S TMJ4 wanted to give Mayor Ryan a chance to talk about the development.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Annie Scholz: "I just wanted to give you a chance before the meeting tonight to comment about your campaign, or, as we move forward with the recall."
Mayor Ryan refused.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Annie Scholz: "So you don't want to comment at all?"
Mayor Ryan: "No I don't, thank you."
Ryan and anyone else running, needs to get more than half the votes to win the January 17th election outright. There are seven candidates right now, with one more likely to file Tuesday.
Shebogyan's City Clerk Susan Richards told TODAY'S TMJ4, "With so many candidates it's possible that the vote will be split enough that maybe perhaps people will not get the majority, i don't know that yet."
That would mean a second election in February. While Mayor Ryan wouldn't say anything on camera, he is telling his colleagues he's ready.
"He's a very good campaigner so he's looking forward to this," said Susan Richards.
Starting Tuesday, each candidate can begin to get the 200 signatures they'll need in the next two weeks to be on the ballot. Mayor Ryan doesn't have to do that, he's on the ballot automatically.
