MILWAUKEE - The President's controversial American Jobs Act takes center stage at the Milwaukee Area Technical College.

Milwaukee Democratic Congresswoman Gwen Moore was there, touting the act in hopes of bringing more money to state technical schools.

Rep. Moore said the best way to create jobs is to invest in schools, like the welding program at the MATC West Allis campus.

"It's a good program here, welding technology," said Monzell McClinton, a second-year student in that program.

He says he loves the program, but not the welding lab.

"It's really small in these booths, and they need to be expanded because the shop is kind of old.  We need to have a better facility."

The problem is that MATC does not have the money to expand and modernize the equipment.

"This has built us one of the greatest economies," said Moore, who came to the school to tout the Obama-supported federal legislation.

"The jobs act that the President has posed will provide numbers of jobs."

Moore claims the act will provide nearly $80 million in funding for Wisconsin's 16 technical schools.

"It will put money in the greatest asset that we have in America, and that is in our students," said Moore.

Janesville Republican Representative Paul Ryan is against Mr. Obama's jobs act.

"The first stimulus failed to deliver the jobs the Administration promised and there's little reason to think this plan would be any different," said Ryan in a statement.

"Businesses and job creators don't want more borrowing and spending from those in Washington;  they are hungry for long-term policy certainty. Congress should focus on putting in place the necessary conditions for economic growth - low and predictable taxes, sound money, regulatory certainty, and a plan to get our debt and deficits under control.

"I'm hopeful that rather than double down on ideas that have proven to fail, the President will work with House Republicans on ideas that have a proven track record of growing our economy and creating jobs."

MATC and other Wisconsin technical schools is not guaranteed the money.

  1. MATC get boatloads of taxpayer money, and they never are accountable to the taxpayer. Most of it goes to overpaid staff and faculty not into classrooms. Gwen Moore is a joke and needs to go, never did a darn thing for her district, just a hack >:(
