East Troy mother and father of twin 11 month-olds have been charged in the infants’ death
EAST TROY- The East Troy mother and father of twin 11 month-olds have been charged in the infants’ death.
Investigators say when they went inside the apartment it was filthy. They found dirty diapers and bottles with curdled milk lying around. Wednesday, both of the parents made their first court appearance.
According to court documents, mother Melody Butt admitted that she put the twins in the bathtub, started the water, then said she “went into her bedroom because she was tired and fell asleep.”
The twins’ uncle found the tiny boy and girl, neither was breathing.
“I just brought them out of the tub. I walked in and the water is running and she was sleeping, and I was like what the hell? I seen the babies lying in there,” the uncle said in a 9-1-1 call.
Butt is charged with two counts of child neglect resulting in death.
The father, Christopher Evans, is charged with child neglect because of the filthy conditions in the home.
Evans’ friends say he’s not to blame because he wasn't living at the apartment at the time.
“It’s just unbelievable that he could be charged when he was not even there,” said Betty Rysaght.
Butt is being held in jail on $10,000 bond. Evans walked out of jail on a signature bond.
“If they are going to try charging him with neglect, a party to a crime, I believe anyone who walked into that house that has seen the house how it was, should also be charged,” Rysaght said.
Butt told investigators that she has been CPR trained, but did not try to resuscitate her children.
Both Butt and Evans will be back in court next week.
Butts’ two other children, ages six and two, are now with family members.
