Police identify victim in shooting near MATC
WEST ALLIS- West Allis Police report 17-year-old Darnell Kendricks was shot Tuesday night in West Allis near the MATC campus. Kendricks was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Milwaukee Police searched a home on the 1800 block of South 25th street for the alleged shooter. That suspect is still on the loose.
An intense search, Milwaukee police surround a home in tactical gear with guns drawn. They're looking for an 18-year-old murder suspect in a fatal shooting near the MATC Campus in West Allis.
"I went outside. The police, they just told me go inside. It's kinda weird," Luis Orozco says. He works next door to where police searched.
Police took a woman into custody, but won't say why. An officer used a police dog to sniff through the home. But, their search turned up empty.
The shooting happened at McKinley Park. Residents in the area said they heard the whole thing. "It was pop, pop, pop, pop. I couldn't tell you how many shots came out of it," a witness, who didn't want to be identified because of fear, says.
"People don't want to get involved. They're afraid and after last night I can see why. I'm afraid too," the witness says.
Police say the victim and the suspect arranged to meet at the park for a fight before the shooting. The 17-year-old victim stumbled two blocks to MATC's west campus after being shot. He collapsed and later died.
MATC sent a notice to students, faculty and staff-reminding them to be careful near campus."It's really to prepare folks, so they know what to do in an event of a serious situation."
There is no between MATC, the suspect or the victim. If you have any information, you are asked to call police.
