Milwaukee Police have suspect in custody in beating death of a baby girl
MILWAUKEE- Milwaukee Police have a suspect in custody in the beating death of a baby girl.
The suspect is still awaiting charges, but police say the suspect is the live-in boyfriend of the child's mother.
An 11-month-old baby girl was rushed to the hospital and later died after a brutal beating in the third floor apartment at 37th and Kilbourn.
Charles Taylor lives in the building and says it's, "simply sorrow it's sad to hear something like that."
Meanwhile, property manager Bob Mabeus says he has had numerous problems with that boyfriend.
He says he caught the boyfriend drinking, putting notes under people's doors about threats. Mabeus added that he can't comment on all the threats he did make.
Mabeus told TODAY'S TMJ4's Jermont Terry the Department of Children and Families were called to check on the 11-month-old as recently as last Tuesday.
Mabeus said, "they did come out and they took the mother and daughter with them. We were under the understanding the young man was not suppose to be back, and this weekend we found out he did come back and you see what happened."
"The mother is mentally impaired and i don't think she was fully aware of what was happening," said Mabeus.
TODAY'S TMJ4 tried to get the Department of Children and Families to comment on how the social worker handled this case.
The agency refused saying they could not talk by law.
As for the boyfriend he's awaiting charges.
