RACINE -- What started out as a routine traffic stop ended up as a drug bust worth more than $12,000 in heroin and cocaine.

"I look at that as life saving. Those are literally death in a bag," said Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling.
Racine County Sheriff's Deputies pulled over a car on I-94 Monday night as a part of a routine traffic stop.  The sheriff argues these types of "routine" stops where large amounts of drugs are found are becoming more common.
"Unfortunately we are seeing more and more of it," Schmaling said.
It didn't take long for the deputy to realize there was something more going on inside the car.  He asked for a canine, and the drugs were found inside a laundry container.
The three men in the car, all from Minnesota were arrested.
"This is exactly the type of work that we are training our deputies to look through, looking beyond that traffic stop and looking for those types of drugs," Schmaling said.
