Meeting Tuesday night about Hoan Bridge bike lane
MILWAUKEE - A group of local lawmakers is hosting a neighborhood meeting Tuesday to discuss a proposal to build a bike lane on the Hoan Bridge.
Rep. Jon Richards (D-Milwaukee) announced he will be hosting a neighborhood meeting with two fellow Milwaukee Democrats, Rep. Christine Sinicki and Sen. Chris Larson, along with state transportation officials.
Richards told Newsradio 620 WTMJ that the idea has been in discussion for years.
"There is a great deal of support for a bike lane over the Hoan Bridge. It's something we've been talking about for more than a decade," said Richards.
Richards explains that the cost of the project will depend on the design plan officials would choose.
"There are several ideas floating about on how to get that done," Richards told us.
He claims that when people used the Hoan Bridge during the Miller Lite Ride for the Arts during this summer, "It was a huge success. People really enjoyed the ride, enjoyed the view, and found it was a really efficient way to get from Bay View to downtown."
Richards claims there has been little opposition to his cause for the Hoan.
"I haven't heard any opponents yet, but everyone is invited to come to this meeting."
It has been scheduled between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Beulah Brinton Center on the 2500 block of South Bay Street.

News item today in the WI State Urinal-WI got a $24 millions gov't grant to upgrade internet from copper to fiber optic for !7,000! subscribers. That's $3,400 per subscriber. Who do you think is paying for that?
