Campaigns stepping up effort as Wirch-Steitz election nears

KENOSHA - With a short time to go until the recall election, both candidates are stepping up their efforts to make sure voters don't forget when to vote.
It's crunch time in the Wirch-Steitz race and things are certainly busy.
Volunteers in Kenosha are working overtime for both candidates to make sure they win Tuesday's election.
"We're trying to make sure they know when the election is because it's been confusing year -- since February on the recalls," Rollind Pizzala with the Kenosha County Democratic Party says.
Longtime Senator Bob Wirch faces a recall because he fled to Illinois during the capital chaos. His republican challenger Jonathan Steitz wants that seat.
"We've got to hold Bob Wirch accountable for leaving and people have been wanting to do that since Feb. 17th."
Steitz believes he's gaining momentum, after four republicans won last Tuesday's recall elections.
“We've got a great shot of picking up this seat here in 22nd district,” Steitz says.
"If he were to lose his seat I think we're going to by Walker's stand," Pizzala says.
So Wirch volunteers are reminding voters what he stands for.
"Kenosha is made up of working class people. We used to be number one in manufacturing," Pizzala adds.
But from the hard economic times, Steitz says small businesses here now want a diverse economy.
"I'm not going to blame Bob Wirch for everything. But, his polices have not helped encourge jobs come here," Steitz says.
We did put in a request to speak to Senator Wirch directly. But, TMJ4 was told he was booked at festivals and campaigning. The election is August 16th.
