Three teens arrested in killing of pregnant woman
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee police have arrested three teenage boys in connection with the killing of a pregnant woman who was gunned down in front of her young son last weekend.
Police Chief Edward Flynn said Friday the suspects range in age from 15 to 17. He says two have a history of gun arrests, and he blames a "broken" juvenile justice system for not dealing with violent teens more effectively.
Thirty-four-year-old Sharon Staples was killed early Sunday morning after she refused to give her purse to two armed robbers. Her 13-year-old son told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the robbers fired and fled, then returned for the purse.
Staples was four months pregnant. The fetus didn't survive. Staples also left behind seven children ranging in age from 4 to 13.
