Nativity Stays Up in Green BayGREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The nativity scene stands alone. The Green Bay City Council voted last night to leave it where it is, on an overhang outside City Hall. The council also banned any other religious displays until the city could come up with some guidelines. It was a close vote with Mayor Jim Schmitt casting the tie-breaker after heated debate on both sides of the issue of separation of church and state. More than two dozen citizens addressed the council. Some praised the city for putting up the Christian symbol. Others condemned it for excluding other faiths. A vandal this week damaged a Wiccan display that had been put up outside City Hall. ------ Information from: Green Bay Press-Gazette, http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press.
