MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Public Schools District says that student artwork depicting images of Govenor Scott Walker as the devil was "against district policy" and that they would take appropriate actions

Students at Lancaster Elementary School created the pictures.

The following is the entirety of the MPS statement:

"A preliminary investigation indicates the questionable pieces were a small portion of a larger class assignment. The teacher wanted students to create persuasive or argumentative advertising illustrations.

"The political content of the four pieces in question should have disqualified them from being displayed. It is against District policy to display any political material or conduct political activism in schools.

"We are sorry this happened. The inappropriate pieces were taken down as soon as they came to our attention. We wish someone had alerted us sooner. The on-going district investigation involves a personnel matter. The appropriate actions will be taken."

Parents TODAY'S TMJ4's Annie Scholz spoke to say that politics don't belong in grade school.

"I don't think that should be taught in the schools or be brought up as something that the kids should get into," said Dan Rouse.  "They really don't understand government yet."

"I think children are going to be children, and a lot of it's got to do with what they've heard from grown folk," explained Rhonda Burrell.

"I would wonder about that teacher."

It's still unclear whether anyone will face punishment for the pictures.

  1. Oh let us guess why this has happened...teachers, keep your politics out of the classrooms. How about just teaching kids math, real science (not propaganda global warming), and English. :(
  2. "Unclear whether anyone will face punishment", How about firing this so called teacher. It's time to take control and put this kind of crap behind us. Enough is enough.
  3. Dear God...when will this crap stop!!! Enough already....at what point did our society turn into a gathering of hate mongering thugs who believe that this sort of behavior is acceptable? You speak of the children..but can you not see the irreversible consequences you may be inflicting on them with your incivility?
  4. Global warming is NOT propaganda, it is science and we are already seeing the effects its having on our climate. Just walk outside. I can't remember the last time it was this hot and muggy this early in the summer. The global temperature is rising along with sea levels. We will continue to see more extreme weather events as time goes on. Heatwaves, droughts, heavy rain...if you did your research, you'd know that scientists have proved that global warming is happening all around us. The west coast was experiencing record breaking heat while we still had snow on the ground. Can you remember more than a handful of days below zero over the winter? Despite the massive snowstorm we had to dig ourselves out from, we had a very mild winter overall. Do some reading on wikipedia sometime, you might learn more about this so called propaganda. Oh and this whole thing with Walker...I find it funny. Teachers are angry over the possible loss of their bargaining rights. I may not have chosen to do something like this if I were a teacher, but I get it. I think people should ease up a little and put themselves in a teacher's shoes. They make almost zilch as it is.
