ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Green Bay Packers cornerback Charles Woodson has been honored with a special day named after him at a hospital at his alma mater.

Patients, hospital staff and others at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital showed their appreciation for the former Heisman Trophy winner during "Charles Woodson Day" on Thursday.

He also accepted the first Mott Champions for Children Award at the hospital.

Woodson, who won the Heisman Trophy when he was at Michigan, then visited patient floors and passed out Mott bears wearing Charles Woodson T-shirts.

He has given his time and money to the Ann Arbor school's children's hospital over the years, visiting patients and personally donating to the Champions for Children campaign to build the new Mott Children's Hospital, which opens in November.
