MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State prison officials say Gov. Scott Walker's plan to shutter two juvenile prisons means dozens of staff members could lose their jobs.
Walker's budget calls for shuttering Ethan Allen School, a boys reformatory in Wales, and Southern Oaks Girls School in Union Grove. Department of Corrections officials say the plan calls for closing both by July 1. The boys and girls from both institutions would move to Lincoln Hills School in Irma.
The move is projected to save $23 million annually over the two-year budget, but Corrections officials say 292 workers at both institutions will receive notices that they're at risk of being laid off.
