Capitol Chaos: Merton Sends Teacher Layoff Notices
MERTON - One school board has taken some preliminary action in anticipation of state cuts to education connected to Governor Scott Walker's budget repair bill.
The Merton Community School District has sent initial notices of layoffs and staff reductions to about one-third of the district's teaching staff.
The school board says they are making plans in case the state cuts anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million from their budget.
The board added that they will not make any official changes until Governor Walker's budget repair bill and his state budget plans through 2013 are clear, but they are legally required to send the notices.
