GREEN BAY - So what will the Packers be doing right before game time? Praying with Father Jim Baraniak, the Packers' team chaplain.
But is it OK to pray for a win?
Fr. Baraniak says he won't do that, but he will pray for the players to use the gifts they've been given.
"That's going to be what is spoken of, and that's going to be the public prayer," said Fr. Baraniak.
"Let's be honest. What is going on in the recess of those human hearts gathered around that table? I have no idea. I can make some assumptions. However, we will not actually pray for victory."
Still, Fr. Baraniak admits that after 14 years with the team, he works the rules just a tad.
"In the Canon of the Mass, when we mention Mary, the mother of God, Mary has many different titles, Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Immaculate Conception," said Fr. Baraniak.
"I do pray for Mary, the Mother of God, Our Lady of Victory. That is a little subtle hint to where my mind and heart is."
Baraniak says his pre-game "congregation" has grown in the last three weeks.
