Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After Standoff
MILWAUKEE - A West Allis man is in custody following an afternoon bank robbery in Milwaukee. Police believe the 29 year old is responsible for a two o’clock heist at a Chase Bank branch at 76th and Morgan.
Following that afternoon robbery, police surrounded the home of a West Allis man with a SWAT team. For several hours, police communicated with the suspect who was holed-up alone inside apparently watching coverage of the standoff on television. During that time, the suspect began making phone calls to friends including Zach Kerber.
“He just needed to talk to me,” Kerber said recounting the conversation the suspect had with Kerber’s mother. “It was urgent. I don’t know. He sounded stressed, slurring his words.”
Less than four hours after that phone call, police fired tear gas into the suspect’s home. Moments later, they went inside and arrested the man.
Police say the suspect has a short criminal record including narcotic charges.
