North Shore Burglar Arrested

WHITEFISH BAY - A 42-year-old man has been arrested for breaking into several homes in the North Shore suburbs while the homeowners were sleeping.  Police said the suspect was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Monday after they received a call about a prowler in the 1500 block of East Cumberland Boulevard in Whitefish Bay.

A resident who lives on East Cumberland told TODAY'S TMJ4 reporter Heather Shannon that the suspect first tried to break into his home, cutting the screen on a back window, but couldn't break through the thick glass.  The resident believes the suspect then tried to break into a neighbor's home.  But dogs at that home started barking, alerting the homeowner that someone was trying to break in.  That resident called police, and officers arrested the suspect minutes later.

"It just goes to show you can't go around doing this sort of thing without paying a price," another one of his victims, a woman who lives in Shorewood, said.

The suspect broke in to her home last week, cutting a back screen, and climbing in through the window while she was asleep upstairs.

"My reaction is sweet justice," she said about the arrest.  "This is what the guy deserves.  It's a violation of your home and it's a very uncomfortable feeling."

The suspect stole around $100 in cash from her wallet.  She is now installing new windows, with "pegs," or safety locks, which only allow them to be raised about 6 inches, so no one can get inside.

Court records show the suspect, who hasn't yet been officially charged for the burglaries, has a long criminal record including spending time in prison for a burglary in Whitefish Bay.
