MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office has charged a man in the shooting of two West Allis police officers.

Demario Bell, 23, faces four felony counts, including two for attempted first degree intentional homicide, in the shootings of officers Nick Stachula and Ryan McNally.

If he is convicted on all four charges, Bell could face up to 133 years and six months in prison.

According to the criminal complaint, Stachula saw someone driving erratically around the corner of South 80th and West Lapham Streets at about 12:50 a.m. on August 7th.

After Stachula followed the car, he turned his lights on near the corner of South 74th and West Orchard.

The driver of the car, reported to be Bell, then drove at a faster speed, evading Stachula's squad car at about South 69th Street and West National Avenue.

A witness who was riding inside the car told police that Bell said he avoided police because he did not want to go to jail.

Officer Stachula then went to the home where the car was registered, near the corner of South 55th Street and West Greenfield Avenue.

Stachula and Officer McNally went to the apartment where Bell was inside.  He ordered Bell to come to the door, but he apparently refused.

Bell was said to have had both hands behind his back.

McNally ordered Stachula to tase Bell and Stachula pointed his taser, demanding that Bell show his hands, but according to the complaint, Bell refused to do so.

Stachula said in the complaint that he saw the flash of a semi-automatic handgun, followed by a gunshot to his left hip.  The officer claimed that Bell shot him.

McNally and a police sergeant returned fire, but McNally took a shot to his left foot.

A Sheriff's Department tactical team came to the apartment and found the defendant lying down near a pool of blood.
