Sinkhole Site Hosts Concert Series

MILWAUKEE - Oakland and North, the site of the sinkhole that occurred in July, is hosting a free concert series cleverly named "Sink Hole de My-Oh!" to aide hurting businesses in that area due to the construction.

The first one was Sunday afternoon.

After the fire that destroyed Pizza Man, along with three other businesses this past January and most recently the Brew city flood that caused a sink hole at the same intersection, some North Ave. businesses have been suffering. The intersection has been shut down twice over the past 8 months.

Although the intersection is closed, the businesses are not and they decided to put on the free concert in order to encourage business and remind people that these places need help.

Mazin Hadman who owns Chubby Cheesesteaks, which is located at the intersection, said that he lost half his business over the past few weeks.

"When people see the construction they kind of go around it, and don't want to go through it," said Hadman.

Sunday's free concert got a big response from fans of the historic intersection. "I think it's wonderful," local resident Paula Wheeler said.

And Wheeler is expecting a quick turnaround. "It's a great neighborhood, I think it'll bounce back quickly," she said.

The hope is the bad luck corner will become good luck for businesses once again. "A year from now, I see this area being crazy busy. So I think it's going to be a lot of things from here on out," Hadman said.

The construction may take another month to finish, but every business at Oakland and North is open and accessible.
