RACINE - A one-year-old girl visiting her grandparents in Racine is facing severe injuries after being bitten by their red nose pit bull.

Police were called to the hospital Tuesday evening where they learned the victim's grandfather had just put the dog on a leash to go for a walk when it suddenly turned around and bit the young girl.

The family was able to get the dog off of the girl quickly. She was then flown to Children's Hospital via Flight for Life for emergency treatment.

Despite the severity of the victim's injuries, police say they are non-life threatening. The dog is up to date on vaccinations.
