Latest Veteran Unemployment Data
Toplines from data released March 20, 2012:
- Veterans who have served on active duty since 9/11/01 are experiencing a 12.1% unemployment rate, some 40% higher than the national average of 8.3%
- Young male veterans under 25 are experiencing a 29.1% unemployment rate, 2/3rds higher than the 17.9% for their civilian counterparts
- Overall veteran unemployment for all ages is 8.3%, tracking the national average – but this is largely a factor of the fact that of 26.9 million veterans, only 8.9% (2.4 million) have served since 9/11/01 – so this is really a crisis affecting those who have served over the past 11 years
