Tammy Baldwin to speak at Democratic national convention

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - According to a published report, a Democratic Senate candidate from Wisconsin will speak at the party's national convention next month.
Politico first reported, and Newsradio 620 WTMJ confirmed, that Tammy Baldwin - currently representing Madison in the House of Representatives - will speak at the convention, to happen Sept. 3-6 in Charlotte, N.C.
"We're really excited about having that opportunity," said spokesman John Kraus to Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jodi Becker.
He explained that the timing and details of the speech had not initially been determined.
Baldwin is facing former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson in the race for a Senate seat soon to be vacated by retiring Democrat Herb Kohl.
Kraus added that Baldwin's passion for the middle class and women's issues could be a part of her speech.
Baldwin was the first openly gay member of Congress.
When asked about whether she would adress gay rights issues, Kraus responded, "Stay tuned."
Politico says that her presence is part of a push by the re-election campaign for President Obama to bring in female voters.
