Some answers to recent questions from listeners and viewers:

"Where did the hockey game go?"   On the day after Thanksgiving, we decided to air local news programming during the day instead of airing NBC's NHL hockey game.  This was our decision, and I heard from some (but not a lot) of hockey fans who were disappointed.  The network wasn't all that happy with us either.  I'll keep viewer feedback (and ratings data) in mind when this issue comes around again next year.  By the way, for those who ask, NBC does not own or operate TODAY'S TMJ4.  We are an affiliate of theirs, but they do not make our programming decisions.

"Why doesn't our news department "support" the governor?"  I received a note from a listener this week who wondered why our news department wasn't "more supportive" of Governor Walker.  It's important to remember that our talk hosts have a wide berth when it comes to expressing their views, but we don't expect our news department to "support" any candidate, public official or cause.   I know the line between "news programs" and "talk programs" isn't always obvious, but I think most viewers and listeners are able to discern the difference between what our talk hosts say and what our news department covers.

"Can't we do something about political advertising?"  A viewer asks if we can put some sort of limits on the amount of political advertising that is starting to fill the airwaves.  First, we are in the business of selling advertising, so I'm not generally in favor of anything that limits our ability to sell commercials.  Second, most political advertising is regulated by the government.  I may devote a future blog to this issue because it is somewhat complex.  For example, we are required to charge certain ad rates to candidates for air time, and we actually are required to accept advertising for candidates who are running for federal offices.

Feel free to drop me a note if you have any questions or comments about Newsradio 620 WTMJ or TODAY'S TMJ4, I enjoy hearing from our listeners and viewers.
