One of the most often asked questions this time of year deals with what we do at Newsradio 620 WTMJ when there are sports broadcast conflicts between the Packers and the Brewers. It's actually a great problem to have to deal with, because interest in the two teams is so high.
So, what happens when we have a Brewers broadcast and a Packers broadcast scheduled at the same time?
Well, it depends.
Typically, the Packers broadcast would air on WTMJ-AM and the Brewers would move to our FM station, WLWK-FM (That's 94.5 Lake FM). But there are instances when that could be reversed, depending on the relative importance of the game, especially later in the baseball season.
The good news is that both AM 620 and 94.5 FM are strong, clear signals. And thankfully, our sports partners in Green Bay and Milwaukee work closely with us to communicate the changes when they occur. I should add that we also have arrangements with other radio stations in Milwaukee so we're always able to make sure our teams have a radio home. This is especially helpful when the Badgers and Bucks seasons start.
Other quick notes...
I just got back from a trip to Omaha, where we own and operate radio and TV stations. The business traveler next to me on the plane had the theme song from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" as his ring tone. It just struck me as very funny.
I took my daughter and my new son-in-law out to dinner while I was in Nebraska. My son-in-law said, 'I'll have the quesadilla burger", to which the waiter replied, "we can't halve a burger, sir". It took a few minutes to clarify that he didn't want half a burger, he just wanted to have a burger.
If you have questions about our radio or TV stations, I'm always interested in your feedback on this blog, on twitter (@wextmj) or by e-mail: swexler@journalbroadcastgroup.com.
