Donald Driver on Special Teams?

  • Print

Packers legend Donald Driver could be in uniform and contributing during Saturday night's game. And it could happen without him taking a snap on offense.

The veteran wide receiver apparently went to coaches a couple of weeks ago and said that he would like to play special teams if it would help the Packers win. And reporters in Green Bay today reported that Driver was practicing with the special teams units.

Many veteran players would view special teams as below them. Not Driver.  That is one of the beautiful things about Donald Driver. He is selfless.  Driver is on our show every week and for the last month we have asked him questions about being inactive and the possibility that his time in Green Bay could be winding down.  He has responded repeatedly that, sure, it's not easy being inactive, but he only cares about one thing-winning.  he has never wavered.

"I think I'll be activated," Driver said. "We'll see."

It would be coming full circle for Driver.  He first made the Packers as a special teams player in 1999.
