"Under the Influence" Seriously?!
Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies arrested 17 drunk drivers this past weekend. 17!
Four of them were involved in crashes. Repeat Offenders included a OWI-3rd, OWi-4th, OWI-5th and OWI-6th. Deputies also arrested a drunk driver who had a nine year old child in the car.
Here they are.
Police say 38 year old Amy Berger was arrested on Friday after she was seen swerving all over highway 45. She admitted drinking alcohol and consuming prescription meds. There was a nine year old child in the car with her.
Nicholas Glover could be in some very deep trouble. Sheriff's deputies say the 34 year old was having trouble keeping it on the road as he cruised through the zoo interchange on Saturday. Glovers blood alcohol blow was .16, twice the legal limit. He was cited for OWI-6th. Six times. Oh, and a few more things, the car Glover was driving was stolen and cocaine and marijuana were recovered from the car.
This is 37 year old Paul Porter. Porter was stopped near the intersection of Howard and Kingan in Milwaukee. He was cited for OWI-5th.
And then there is Rafael Rosales. The 40 year old was stopped after being clocked at 80 miles per hour and swerving all over I-94. Rosales admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. He was arrested for OWI-4th. Rosales has an extensive criminal history, including operating an auto without owner's consent, battery, violation of a domestic abuse order, and sexual assault of a child.
If convicted of OWI-4th, Rosales faces up to one year in jail. One year! Seriously?
Legislators began their new session today and Senator Alberta Darling and Representative Jim Ott say they will introduce new legislation that will, among other things, toughen sentences and make some OWI-1st offenses a crime. We have to do something to stop the madness. It is too important too dangerous to ignore.
