Parents Weekend at Ohio State
What a wonderful weekend.
Michelle and I are just back from three days with Kierra at Ohio State. It was parents weekend. It's always special to see our girls. (Her sister Aimee is at Syracuse in New York.)
We hung out at her sorority house and watched Ohio State beat Michigan State. It was cool to get to know some of her sorority sisters and their parents. It's such a good feeling as a parent when you know your daughter is at a place where she is safe and happy and thriving. Kierra has found that place at Ohio State. Do I wish she had found that place a little closer to home? Absolutely, but I'm glad that she is hitting her stride in Columbus.
After the game watch party we did something very cool. We headed to watch the MLS team, Columbus Crew play. They have a beautiful soccer only stadium. It was the first professional soccer only stadium built in America. It is stunning. Great sight lines, great atmosphere, great game. There were a ton of vuvuzelas, banging drums and huge flags. The atmosphere was pretty amazing.
And whoa... what a game. The Crew won 3-2. They got up 2-Zip early and then the Philadelphia Union stormed back to tie the game. As time ticked down the Crew went ahead and stayed there. The place went crazy. I can't help but believe that if all games were that exciting (and that high scoring) maybe soccer would catch on here.
It was a long drive home. It was one of those tired, but happy kind of feelings. I miss seeing Kierra and Aimee every day. I miss them terribly. But it does make things considerably easier knowing that they are thriving.
