Another Drunk Driving Tragedy
This is 23 year old Erin Salmon.
Police say on Wednesday, September 5th she was intoxicated and entered I-94 via the Van Buren "off ramp". She traveled the wrong way on the expressway for almost 2.5 miles. She passed approximately 50 vehicles who had to stop or swerve to avoid a colliding with here.
Off duty police officer Joshua Albert couldn't avoid Salmon driving west bound in the east bound lanes. Salmon smashed into him and both were critically injured.
Albert's injuries include a severe pelvic injury with several fractures, spinal fluid leak, internal bleeding, and a severe left ankle injury and fracture of his femur.
Salmon's injuries include a lacerated spleen and liver, an aortic tear, brain injuries and a shattered right leg.
Salmon has now been charged with recklessly endangering safety and injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
When does it stop? When will legislators begin to take drunk driving seriously and draft legislation that actually serves as a deterrent?
We have to get this figured out. Soon.
