It's That Time of Year Again

It's that time of year again.

Summer is winding down. As we slip into mid August thoughts begin to turn to kids returning to school. When you have little ones, it's kind of exciting. The weather is warm. The kids march off to school. The report cards begin to come home and so do all the little crafty things that are made for Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas.  It's fun and charming and exciting. When Kierra and Aimee were eight and nine years old, the end of Summer was sad and fresh all at the same time.

As the kids move onto High School, the beginning of the school year is like an escape from months of non stop refrigerator raiding, days of arguing over Summer car sharing and hours of sitting on the couch watching TV.  When our girls were 16 and 17 years old, Summer couldn't come soon enough.

Now when Summer turns to Fall it is just flat out sad. Our girls are young ladies. Our five year old twins proudly marching off to Kindergarten have grown into confident 19 year olds returning to campuses in Columbus and Syracuse.  I am so proud of the women Kierra and Aimee have become.  They are smart.  They are responsible and they are fun to be with.  I think the last characteristic is what makes it so tough to send them back away.  Michelle and I enjoy being with them.  It's not a constant battle and I think they enjoy being with us.  We are a tight family and do a lot together all Summer.

So we drove Kierra to Ohio State yesterday.  Aimee flew to Syracuse this morning.

It's that time of year again.
