Remove the Statue. Remove it Now.
A towering statue of Penn State football coach Joe Paterno stands outside Beaver Stadium in Happy Valley. The statue is where Penn State students rallied in the days following the dismissal of Paterno last year. The statute is where mourners gathered after his death earlier this year.
It's time for the statue to go.
A report headed by former FBI Director Louis Freeh has concluded that Paterno and other top Penn State officials hushed up and covered up child sex abuse allegations against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. Because of their failed steps Sandusky was allowed to continue victimizing kids for 14 more years. 14 years!
It's time to take down the statue. Get rid of it.
I have an idea. Let's replace it with a Memorial to those that were abused on Paterno's watch.
Or maybe Penn State should keep the Joe Paterno statue and just turn it around, so that he's looking the other way.
