Inmates Collecting Foodstamps?

Ok.  I am pretty worked up.

I just read the Don Walker article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about prison inmates receiving food stamps. Let me say that again... PRISON INMATES ARE RECEIVING FOOD STAMPS.

According to Walker's article, 447 state prison inmates received the benefits and almost 1200 others who are ineligible because they are either running from the law or violating their probation.

Are you frickin' serious?!  How is that even possible?  Two explanations.

First off, there is clearly not adequate oversight. Isn't there anyone down there at the Department of Health Services overseeing this process? The average amount that a prison inmate illegally collected was $1400. Ridiculous. Who is watching over this system? Apparently no one.

Secondly, the prisoners are allowed to use computers in the pen and they can apply for these benefits on those computers. That's right. Inmates apparently are sitting in the pokey using computers we pay for to cheat a system we also pain to fund.

I know this is going to offend some people that think prisoners should live just like the rest of us. WHY THE HELL DO PRISONERS NEED ACCESS TO A COMPUTER?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!? Seriously!!!!!! Why?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I know they can do productive things on the computer, and now it is evident that they can apparently also do malicious things. Being able to use a computer is a privilege. It is not a right. I agree with some critics that say that inmates need to have things that stop them from going crazy and allow them to prepare to enter back into society. How about this... grab a book from the library cart. They don't need a computer! Sure a computer is nice, but YOU   ARE   IN   PRISON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My goodness.
