My Email from Bill Ayers
Here is how Wikipedia describes Bill Ayers:
William Charles "Bill" Ayers (born December 26, 1944) is a former leader a movement that opposed U.S involvement in the Vietnam war. He is known for his 1960s activism. In 1969 he co-founded the Weather Underground, a self-described communist revolutionary group that conducted a campaign of bombing public buildings during the 1960s and 1970s, in response to U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.
Today Ayers took off on the U.S. military, saying that it irks him when uniformed military personnel are allowed to pre-board flights as a courtesy.
I invited him to come on Wisconsin's Afternoon News to discuss it. Here is the email he sent back to me:
YO!!! I'm out of the country, sorry. What I've said a thousand times is this: When the airlines invite military personnel to board, and "thank you for your service," I tend to say, Yes, and lets let nurses and teachers and firefighters board early and thank THEM for their service. Otherwise "service" comes to mean military service exclusively, and other forms of essential service are diminished. We become militaristic---we spend more on weapons than the rest of the world combined to take one stunning example---in spite of our rosy self-conception.
Here is my question? Why do guys who apparently hate this country, or hate so much about it continue to live here?
