Miss Wisconsin is Now Miss America

  • Print

Something very exciting has happened for the first time in 40 years.  Miss Wisconsin has been crowned Miss America.  Kenosha native Laura Kaeppeler became the newest Miss America on Saturday.

Her evening consisted of singing opera, showing off a white bikini, and parading around in a black evening gown. Her platform is mentoring children of incarcerated prison inmates. It's an issue that is very personal to Laura.  Her dad was incarcerated for mail fraud when Laura was getting ready to graduate from High School.

We spoke to Laura's mom Susan this afternoon. She, like the rest of us, is extremely proud. She told us, “Laura was nervous early in the week, but as Saturday’s pageant got closer a calm settled over her.” Susan and her husband were at the pageant in Vegas.

You can listen to our conversation with Susan Kaeppeler here.

Congratulations to Laura Kaeppeler and her family.
