Rare Wisconsin Butterfly

  • Print

U.S. Fish and Wildlife wants to put a rare butterfly, the Poweshiek Skipperling, on the endangered species list. The butterfly's habitat is in Waukesha County. The butterfly was once abundant in the area. Now it is rarely seen and in in danger of going extinct.

Many fear that if the butterfly is put on the endangered species list it could end up negatively impacting development. The Department of natural Resources says that will not happen. DNR folks claim the protected area is deep in the middle of the Kettle Moraine Forest.

Let's hope it doesn't happen. Remember what happened in Menomonee Falls when the Butler Garter Snake was discovered there?
