Want to do something positive for the local community? Want to stand up against bullying and thuggery? Want to support an outstanding local business that is being unfairly targeted by special interest groups seeking to advance their own political agendas?
It's tough to defeat a sitting President. In fact, it's only happened three times during my lifetime: Ford in 1976 (who wasn't elected in the first place), Carter in 1980 and Bush in 1992. As such, the odds would seem to favor President Obama winning re-election in November.
The first poll released after last Tuesday's Republican Senate Primary shows GOP nominee Tommy Thompson with a commanding lead over uber-liberal Democrat Tammy Baldwin. For many of us who voted for Thompson based on our perception of his electability, these results come as no surprise.
