Mo's Irish Pub has been extremely popular since in opened in Wauwatosa a couple of years ago. However, with that popularity has come some problems.
Although located at a site formerly occupied by a Ground Round near Highway 100 and Bluemound Road, the tavern is situated in a generally residential area. As a result of the large number of people who patronize the place, residents of the area feel the character of the neighborhood has changed since Mo's opened. On street parking is at a premium and late night noise is frequent.
In an effort to resolve the parking issue, an investment company has purchased two homes across the street from the bar. The plan is to raze the houses and lease the land to Mo's for an additional parking lot. Mo's is agreeable to paying the same amount in taxes on the properties as was paid in 2008. If approved, the additional lot would have 48 parking spots (on top of 131 off-street spots currently available).
Before this can happen, the two properties need to be rezoned. Several residents (particularly those living adjacent to the parking lot) are extremely unhappy and want the Common Council to shoot down the plan.
Later today, we'll discuss whether this is an inspired concept - or whether Mo's is behaving like a stooge?
