Around 9:00 p.m. last evening, a red SUV was spotted careening recklessly through downtown Waukesha. The vehicle struck several cars before fleeing the area.
Five minutes later, the SUV hit a 21-year-old Carroll University student who was crossing an intersection. The driver then knocked down a light pole and drove off at a high rate of speed. Ultimately the alleged operator of the SUV, identified by authorities as Stuart Gasper, was apprehended. According to police, Gasper claimed that other cars had hit him - not the other way around.
As a result of last night's spree, Gasper was arrested for 8th time Operating While Intoxicated and a variety of other offenses. HIs last drunk driving conviction came in 2002. At the time of the offense last evening, Gasper had a valid driver's license.
Later today, we'll be discussing whether there should be a "death penalty" on re-instituting licenses for chronic drunk drivers?
