Shawn Turschak lives in a heavily Democratic area in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Last Monday, after Turschak's latest pair of McCain-Palin yard signs were stolen, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
In addition to posting two new signs, Turschak hooked the signs into a power source for his electric pet fence. The result of this was that anybody who touched the sign would receive a mild electric shock. Turschak also mounted a surveillance camera in a nearby tree and wired it to a digital recorder.
The following day, a 9-year old boy from the neighborhood, apparently with the blessing of his parents, tried to swipe the McCain sign and replace it with an Obama one. The plan fell apart though when the kid, literally, got the shock of his life. The entire incident was captured on video.
A short time later, the kid's father confronted Turschak's 13-year-old daughter and complained to police that Turschak had "electrocuted" their child. Authorities investigated the incident and have decided against issuing charges.
Later today, we'll discuss whether the homeowner went too far in his effort to protect his signs?
Here's an interesting side note to this story. Last Wednesday, one day after this incident, Turschak decided to pull the plug on the signs. He did however leave the video camera up. When he got back from his his daughter's soccer game that same afternoon, he found the signs gone. The video camera captured a tolerant, compassionate liberal storming onto his property and stealing the signs.
