The Hollywood Knight

     Call him "The Hollywood Knight"!

As the stock market was getting buffeted by turmoil in the financial markets, Barack Obama took the advice of Horace Greeley yesterday and headed west.  It was a profitiable trip.

First, Obama appeared at a reception and dinner at the Greystone Mansion  that cost $28,500 a plate.  That's right, $28,500 a plate.  Among the 300 or so dinner guests were such Hollywood A-listers as Will Ferrell, Jodie Foster, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Lee Curtis and Steven Spielberg.

Those unable to come up with the dough to get into the Mansion could go slumming at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.  There, for a mere $2500, guests could hear Obama talk about the plight of the common man while grooving to Ben Harper and, of course, Barbra Streisand.

Interestingly, the "man of the people" barred television cameras at both events.

You have to wonder why he's ashamed to be seen taking the money of the Hollywood elite?  Could it be that Obama realizes that  partying with the really rich and famous isn't the best way to connect with the middle-class voters that he says he's so concerned about?

Obama can talk all he wants about the needs of hardworking people.  The fact though is that on Tuesday night, Obama was about as disconnected with mainstream America as it was possible to be - while still being within the continental United States!

Today the Hollywood Knight heads to Nevada with $9 million more than he had yesterday. Hopefully, he'll be able to get a drink and catch a show after his rally in Las Vegas this evening.

From a financial perspective,  the last three days have been really awful for many of us.  We should take heart though.  It hasn't been a bad week for everyone.  Just ask Barack Obama - it seems that he's doing pretty well in a down market.
