I suspect that if given the choice, the reeling Obama campaign might have passed on this endorsement.
Russell Brand is a "comedian" from Great Britain who is virtually unknown in the United States. For reasons that pass understanding, producers selected him to host last night's MTV Video Music Awards. This is the same show that in the past has given us a Britney Spears meltdown and a Madonna lip lock.

In his remarks, Brand described President Bush as "that retard and cowboy fella" who "in England, wouldn't be trusted with a pair of scissors". Obviously, this champion of liberal causes didn't get the memo about the controversy surrounding the "r" word. Brand also told his Hollywood audience to vote for Obama "on behalf of the world".
Reports are that many in the crowd sat silently as Brand went on to mock the Jonas Brothers for wearing "purity rings" (which serve as a vow not to have premarital sex). In fact, it got so bad that American Idol winner Jordan Sparks (another purity ring wearer) felt compelled to say "I just wanna say, it's not bad to wear a promise ring because not every guy and girl wants to be a slut, OK?"
Candidly, I doubt that many actual voters were watching the MTV VIdeo Music Awards last night. Those that did watch though probably didn't like what they saw. We Americans don't really need a guy like Russell Brand telling us how to vote.
Put another way, with supporters like Britain's Russell Brand, Barrack Obama doesn't need too many detractors.
