Sometimes You Can Fight City Hall - And Win!

Two months ago, we talked about the case of Greg Kachka, a 60-year-old retired mail carrier, disabled Vietnam veteran and former Marine.  Kachka had been arrested for attending a meeting of the Island Lake, Illinois Village Board wearing a t-shirt with the Marine insignia and the saying: "Don't Move. If You Run, You'll Only Die Tired".  Kachka also allegedly wagged his finger at a trustee in a "menacing" fashion (whatever that means).

During our discussion, Kachka called the show and denied any wrongdoing.  He also said that he intended to hire an attorney and fight the case.

That is exactly what Kachka did - and the good news is that he won.  After multiple court appearances, prosecutors apparently came to the conclusion that many of us reached months ago.  Namely, they had no case.  Accordingly, authorities have now dropped all charges.

Unfortunately, Kachka has no way of recovering his legal expenses.  That said, principles do matter - and it's good to find people who are willing to fight City Hall when City Hall is wrong!
