Face It, We're No Longer "One Nation, Under God"!
I swear, you can't make this stuff up.
Every year, Capitol Hill Elementary School in Portland, Oregon has a "promotion ceremony" to recognize departing fifth-graders. Traditionally, the ceremony begins with all attendees reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. You know, the one where we all stand and "pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America ....".
In any event, Pam Wilson, the pin-headed Principal at the school banned the Pledge from this year's ceremony. According to Wilson, the school has Muslim students and was concerned that the fact that the Pledge contains the phrase "under God" may have made some of them feel uncomfortable!
For their part, officials with the Portland School District say that they have received no complaints about the pledge.
Later today, we'll talk about whether Principal WIlson is properly accomodating the cultural diversity of her student body or has merely lost her mind?
