Game On

I guess the headline could be: "Romney and Thompson Surge - Erase Massive Gap".  That, of course, would assume that anyone believed the second last poll done by Marquette University Law School suggesting that Barack Obama and Tammy Baldwin really did have huge leads in their respective races.

The truth is that both races have always been close and momentum appears to be on the side of the GOP.  According to the latest numbers released today by MULS, Obama leads Romney by 1 point and Thompson leads Baldwin by less than 1 point.  For purposes of polling, this means that both races are statistical dead heats.

My guess  is that other polls released over the next few days will show similar results.  I don't think last night's Presidential debate will drive too many voters to one candidate or the other.

My instincts tell me that it's bad for Obama to be in this close in Wisconsin three weeks before the election. I also believe that Baldwin's best chance of winning rests with Obama carrying the State in a landslide.  Since this doesn't appear to be happening, I would suppose the Thompson campaign is feeling pretty good today (continuing cheap shots from the local newspaper notwithstanding).

I don't know that Romney will win Wisconsin.  I do however think that he has a very good chance!  As in so many elections, this really will come down to which side does a better job of getting out its voters.

In other words Wisconsin, it's "Game On"!
