The 12 days of football: Friday night fireworks

  • Print

We've got two quality games on the schedule tonight and there should be plenty of offensive fireworks in both the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl.

Both Oklahoma State and Missouri rank in the top 20 in scoring offense.  However the Cowboys have a distinct edge on defense, led by cornerback Justin Gilbert who is the best senior cover corner in the nation.  Another defensive name to watch is Missouri defensive end Michael Sam, a tweener pass rusher who recorded 10 1/2 sacks this season.

Two of the nation's best offenses in Clemson and Ohio State meet in Miami.  Clemson is led by quarterback Tajh Boyd (a mid-round NFL selection) and wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who will likely turn pro after tonight.  On defense the Tigers have defensive end Vic Beasley, a second round prospect.  Ohio State counters with quarterback Braxton Miller and running back Carlos Hyde, the top running back prospect this year.  Also keep an eye out for offensive tackle Jack Mewhort.  Ohio State's defense offers an intriguing prospect in junior linebacker Ryan Shazier.  However, the Buckeyes secondary takes a hit with the loss of Bradley Roby.
