The 12 days of football: Friday tripleheader
Welcome to the final Friday of 2013 and with it comes three games on the bowl schedule. First up the Military Bowl between Marshall and Maryland. The Terps started hot with four straight wins then ended the season winning two of the last three, including a road overtime win over Virginia Tech. Marshall, an under-the-radar Conference USA squad, boasts one of the best offensive units in the country. The Thundering Herd average 43 points per game but are coming off a season-low 24 against Rice in the Conference USA championship game.
After that is Minnesota vs. Syracuse in the Texas Bowl. The Orange are bowl eligible thanks to a 34-31 win over Boston College in the regular season finale. Keep an eye open for Minnesota defensive tackle Ra'Shede Hageman who looks worthy of a first round grade in the 2014 NFL Draft.
The nightcap features BYU and Washington in the Fight Hunger Bowl. Both teams love to run the football with BYU averaging 274 rushing yards per game and Washington averaging 243 yards per game on the ground.. There's also plenty of NFL talent on both sides to watch for. The Cougars have wide receiver Cody Hoffman on offense and linebacker Kyle Van Noy on defense. The Huskies have junior running back Bishop Sankey, who was second in the nation among running backs in rushing yards, and tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who received a second round grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board.
