The 12 days of football

  • Print

Tonight begins a stretch of 12 straight days of meaningful football with bowl games and the NFL playoff picture rounding into form.

The fun begins with the Little Caesars Bowl between Pittsburgh and Bowling Green.  While I get there's not much appeal to being in Detroit the day after Christmas NFL Draft geeks will want to take note of Pittsburgh defensive tackle Aaron Donald, a first team All-American who lacks size but not ability.

The nightcap is the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl (yes that's the name) between Northern Illinois and Utah State.  This is a classic early bowl confrontation between a top 10 offense and a top 10 defense.  It's also your last chance to see Heisman finalist Jordan Lynch, who accounted for an incredible 4,557 yards of offense and 45 touchdowns for NIU.
