Packers training camp preview: Positional battles

Running Back

One of the biggest questions coming into camp is who will emerge as the feature back?  Rookies Eddie Lacy and Jonathan Franklin join a group that includes DuJuan Harris, Alex Green, James Starks and Angelo Pease.  While Lacy and Franklin are solid bets to contribute the Packers will need to figure out what to do with the rest of the group.  If Harris rebounds from offseason surgery he should see plenty of carries as well.  That leaves Green, Starks and Pease fighting for a roster spot.

Wide Receiver

The top three spots are set here but beyond that the Packers have an assortment of youngsters to evaluate including Jarrett Boykin, Jeremy Ross, Charles Johnson and Kevin Dorsey.  All told the Packers are carrying 11 receivers into training camp. With Jordy Nelson, James Jones and Randall Cobb locks to make the team that leaves eight guys fighting for two or three spots.

Cornerback

Tramon Williams enters camp as the veteran of the group but can he return to the Pro Bowl level he played at in 2010?  Williams will be pushed by Sam Shields, Casey Hayward and Davon House.  Jarrett Bush and rookie Micah Hyde should compete along with Loyce Means, James Nixon and Brandon Smith.

Kicker

Mason Crosby has a pretty strong hold on this position however just for good measure the Packers signed Giorgio Tavecchio in the offseason.  If Crosby's 2012 struggles accelerate in camp it could open the door just enough for Tavecchio.
