Championship Weekend Begins
The BCS and national championship picture will clear up this weekend with the conclusion of the college football regular season. Championship Weekend kicks off with a pair of games tonight and if you're a fan of offense you are in for a treat.
First up is the MAC Championship between Northern Illinois and Ohio and if you've been following along on Twitter you know that November was a MAC-tacular month. Northern Illinois (featuring future third-string NFL quarterback Chandler Harnish) ranks 11th nationally in scoring offense with nearly 40 points per game. Ohio averages slightly less than 32 points per game. The winner will play Sun Belt champion Arkansas State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl, which holds the distinction of being the last bowl played before the national championship game.
Then there's the inaugural Pac 12 Championship game pitting Oregon against UCLA. We all know about Oregon's lightning fast offense which ranks third in the nation in scoring. Unfortunately, the Bruins lack offense and well just about everything else. Last we saw of the Bruins they were getting blasted by USC 50-0. The winner heads to the Rose Bowl.
Also, I'll be filling in on Sports Central with Trenni Kusnierek starting at 6 tonight. We'll be broadcasting from VMP Manor Park so if you're in the neighborhood, stop on by and say hello.
